The Need

       

Urban high schools in low-income areas have the highest truancy, suspension and drop-out rates and the lowest graduation rates in the state. 

     

For the 2006 – 2007 year:

  • 26% of Evans High School Students were absent more than 21 days
  • 24% had in school suspensions and 30% had out of school suspensions
  • Evans had the lowest graduation rate in Orange County -  50.8%

In 2007, Orange County had the 2nd highest felony crime rate in the state of Florida, exceeding that of Miami-Dade County.
